The following is a brief list and explanation of various types of insurance and whilst it is by no means a complete list of everything that is available, it is a useful checklist, which can be used against your own company requirements.

STANDARD MATERIAL DAMAGE

Cover against Fire, Standard Perils, Accidental Damage and Theft. Damage to buildings, fixtures, fittings, stock, machinery, plant and all other contents. For stock and work in progress a single policy can be arranged commencing at the time and place of purchase of raw materials or basis products ending when final ownership is passed to the customer

BUSINESS INTERRUPTION

Cover against loss of gross profit to the business following material damage of varying sorts as well as additional costs and expenses incurred by the business in recovery following such an insured loss. Denial of access, damage to special customers or suppliers premises should be considered.

ENGINEERING

Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, and various regulations issued under the ‘umbrella’ of this act, machinery such as air receivers/compressors and lifting equipment require inspection at pre-determined intervals.

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT

All risks of loss or damage for computer equipment together with costs of recovering data, repairing equipment etc.
 

PERSONAL ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS/PERMANENT HEALTH INSURANCE

Schemes available for companies or individuals for payments in respect of illness or accident, either for limited periods or until retirement.


BOOK DEBTS

Payment for recovery of debts that are unrecoverable following loss of records in an insured loss.

EMPLOYERS LIABILITY

This is compulsory and should be for at least £10,000,000. This covers indemnity to the Insured for all claims made against them by employees of the business. This can also include labour only sub-contractors.

PUBLIC LIABILITY

 This indemnifies the Insured against all sums that the Insured may become legally liable to pay in respect of damages, costs and expenses etc to third parties.

PRODUCTS LIABILITY 

This is the same as Public Liability but relates to indemnity following claims made against you in respect of products sold or supplied.

PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY INSURANCE

Indemnity against claims made against you for defective advice, errors or omissions.

DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS LIABILITY

These people may now be held personally liable for such things as errors, omissions and mis-statement relating to the company for whom they work.


GOODS IN TRANSIT

Goods in Transit worldwide cover for your own vehicles. Remember – your vehicle insurance will in most cases not cover the goods you carry.

REPPATRIATION COVER FOR THE TRANSPORT INDUSTRY 

Medical expenses and repatriation of drivers abroad following illness or injury as well as substitute driver for vehicles where the original driver is taken ill.

CONTRACTORS ALL RISKS POLICIES

Special policies written on an All Risks basis for developers and contractors covering goods and materials brought to site, liabilities, and can be extended to include Building Defects Insurance and many other risks associated with the building construction and developing industries.

COMMERCIAL LEGAL EXPENSES

Cover for legal expenses in a wide variety of contractual, employment and similar situations. For employment particularly in the current climate, this is especially important and the cover includes the cost of an action and any award against you. 


SPECIAL SCHEMES

A wide variety of other insurances are available, including Marine ( a special scheme for marine brokers is available), Aviation, Cargo, Freight Forwarding, as well as large risks which no one insurer is capable of taking.
